Kindergarten In-Person Graduation Interest Survey

Following strict COVID-19 guidelines for outdoor gatherings, PS120 is happy to announce that we will be celebrating our graduates this June with an outdoor ceremony!

Please note that ALL REMOTE students must be accompanied by a parent/guardian over the age of 18 to the outdoor ceremony. Following the graduation ceremony the child will be released to the accompanying parent/guardian to return home.

Students and their families who do not wish to attend the in-person ceremony will be celebrated during a virtual presentation.

Kindergarten graduation is scheduled for Tuesday, June 22nd. The ceremony will take place in the P.S. 120 schoolyard. In the event of rain, a virtual ceremony will be streamed for all to attend from the comfort of your home.

In order to plan for a beautiful and safe event, we need for a parent/guardian to complete the interest survey here informing us of your intentions to attend in-person.

If you need further clarification any of the information listed above, kindly email AP Jacqueline Momoh at jmomoh@schools.nyc.gov to arrange for a time to discuss.

Sincerely,
Ms. Momoh

Principal’s Memo

Dear P.S. 120 Families,

As the weather warms up, we are scheduling fun outdoor activities for our in-person students to enjoy, for example theZuzu Acrobats performanceand upcoming grade level Field Days. I want to assure you that children keep their masks on and maintain social distance at all times at school, even when outdoors. For every event that we host on-site, we are also providing a virtual component to include our remote students learning at home. We recognize that during a difficult year, fun may have been in short supply, so we are endeavoring to fill our May and June calendars to enrich your child’s academic and social experience as much as possible.

I am happy to announce that we will be doing our very best to offer live graduation ceremonies for students in PreK, Kindergarten, and 5th grade. All students, remote and in-person, will be invited to participate. Your child’s teacher will post a survey asking if your family would like to participate in an outdoor graduation ceremony in the P.S. 120 schoolyard. All individuals must wear masks and family pods will be spaced 6 feet apart during the event. Children who choose not to come to the in-person graduation ceremony will be featured virtually. I look forward to these events in June as we celebrate these milestones together!

Looking ahead towards summer, I encourage you to consider applying for Summer Rising, New York City’s free summer plan for any child in grades K-12 who wants to participate. You canlearn more about Summer Rising here, and create an account to begin your application here. The assigned Summer Rising site for P.S. 120 students is at P.S. 24 (45-57 Union Street). I have few details at this time and will continue to share more information about the Summer Rising program as it becomes available.

Lastly, I would like to wish the moms, aunts, grandmothers and all women who support our students a very happy Mother’s Day on Sunday. Thank you for all that you do, and I hope that you have an enjoyable day together.

Sincerely,
Robert Marino

Dear P.S. 120 Families,

I’m happy to report that New York State ELA testing ran extremely well this week. We had 175 students across Grades 3, 4, and 5 take the ELA exam; 125 of them were remote students who came to the building for the first time this year. We will resume the next round of state testing in early May with the NYS Math exam. Additionally, students who are English Language Learners will begin taking the NYSESLAT exam starting Wednesday, April 28th.

This week we also wrapped up preparations to welcome almost 60 P.S. 120 students as they transition from remote learning to Blended (in-person) learning this Monday. We are excited to see these students back in the school building! As a reminder, students beginning Blended (in-person) learning on Monday must have a Covid testing consent form on file. Please click here to access the forms in your preferred language.

Spring continues to be a busy time of year, as we schedule state exams and end-of-year assessments, plan for upcoming graduation ceremonies, and look to celebrate all the learning and growth our students have demonstrated during this unprecedented school year. We will be messaging frequently to share information and request parent feedback via survey and ParentSquare posts. Please ensure that you have a working email address and ParentSquare account.
