Principal’s Memo

Dear P.S. 120 Families,

This coming week, P.S. 120 will celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week (May 3rd-May 7th) by recognizing and honoring the hard work and dedication of all of our staff members. At the same time, particularly with so many students engaging in remote learning, we extend our thanks and gratitude to YOU, the parents. You are your child’s first teacher, and during this unprecedented year many of you have taken on the role of educator more than ever. We appreciate YOU, and cherish our partnership as we support our P.S. 120 Dragons together.

• PreK Educa Parent Workshop: PreK classes are excited to launch the Educa Learning Stories app, which allows school staff to send classroom photos and observations of student learning securely to parents. We are hosting a PreK parent workshop to explain the features of the Educa app to current PreK parents. Please join!

  • Wednesday, May 5th at 3:30 PM

  • Google Meet (Log in with your PreK child’s DOE account) code: Educa120

• Kindergarten offer letters: TODAY is the deadline for families to accept Kindergarten offers to secure a Kindergarten seat for their child in September. Current PreK families, please be sure that you accept at P.S. 120! You can accept your child’s offer by logging into MySchools, or by calling Susan Zanata in the main office (718-359-3390).

• Brain Power community workshops: We are happy to announce that P.S. 120 has purchased 5 “community” parent workshops with our Brain Power partners. P.S. 120 families may log into Zoom every Wednesday at 5pm during the month of May to participate in Brain Power wellness exercises with other families across the city. These virtual workshops will focus on gentle movement, fun brain exercises, breathing, relaxation & mindfulness. Please join with your family - All are welcome!

• PTA Elections: PTA elections will be held virtually in June. We are looking for nominations. If you are interested in running, or have any candidate in mind, please feel free to send an email to ywu25@schools.nyc.gov. These positions will be elected for the 2021-2022 year:

• Restaurant Revitalization Fund Chinese Seminar: SBA and Council Member Peter Koo will host the webinar on May 3rd at 3:00pm to help guide restaurant owners to success during this difficult time.   • As you know, we strive to enrich our minds, bodies and hearts each day at P.S.120! We have been using Brain Power Wellness activities to provide virtual “brain breaks” while we engage in in-person and remote learning.

  • DragonFire TV - Please continue to watch the “Strategy of the Week” videos with your child, and help them master each strategy!

  • To spread Brain Power throughout our P.S. 120 community, please try some individual activities with your children on Mr. Manzione’s YouTube channel! This week, please enjoy a review of:

Celebrations

• Ramadan: The Muslim holy month of Ramadan continues through May 13th. There will be NO SCHOOL on Thursday, May 13th in observance of the Eid al-Fitr festival.
