Principal’s Memo

Dear P.S. 120 Families,

As the weather warms up, we are scheduling fun outdoor activities for our in-person students to enjoy, for example theZuzu Acrobats performanceand upcoming grade level Field Days. I want to assure you that children keep their masks on and maintain social distance at all times at school, even when outdoors. For every event that we host on-site, we are also providing a virtual component to include our remote students learning at home. We recognize that during a difficult year, fun may have been in short supply, so we are endeavoring to fill our May and June calendars to enrich your child’s academic and social experience as much as possible.

I am happy to announce that we will be doing our very best to offer live graduation ceremonies for students in PreK, Kindergarten, and 5th grade. All students, remote and in-person, will be invited to participate. Your child’s teacher will post a survey asking if your family would like to participate in an outdoor graduation ceremony in the P.S. 120 schoolyard. All individuals must wear masks and family pods will be spaced 6 feet apart during the event. Children who choose not to come to the in-person graduation ceremony will be featured virtually. I look forward to these events in June as we celebrate these milestones together!

Looking ahead towards summer, I encourage you to consider applying for Summer Rising, New York City’s free summer plan for any child in grades K-12 who wants to participate. You canlearn more about Summer Rising here, and create an account to begin your application here. The assigned Summer Rising site for P.S. 120 students is at P.S. 24 (45-57 Union Street). I have few details at this time and will continue to share more information about the Summer Rising program as it becomes available.

Lastly, I would like to wish the moms, aunts, grandmothers and all women who support our students a very happy Mother’s Day on Sunday. Thank you for all that you do, and I hope that you have an enjoyable day together.

Sincerely,
Robert Marino
