Principal’s Memo

Dear P.S. 120 Families,

The warm weather we’ve had this week serves as a good reminder to plan for the upcoming summer months. In addition to relaxing and spending quality time with family and friends, it is important that our students are engaged in academic and extracurricular activities during July and August. If you have not already considered NYC’s new Summer Rising program, I encourage you to do so. Summer Rising is New York City’s free school-based summer program for any City child in grades K–8. Summer Rising will integrate the strengths of DOE academics with the Department of Youth & Community Development’s (DYCD) school-based enrichment programming. Students in grades K–8 will get outside, learn, and engage with peers and caring adults in safe, supervised, and enriching ways. These programs will provide a bridge to the next school year and allow students to reconnect with one another and with their schools. Students will address unfinished learning while being provided avenues for recreation, exploration, and fun. You canread more hereand apply to Summer Rising by first creating an account here.

This week, most of our students completed the iReady diagnostic exam #3 (final). A few students who require makeup exams will complete them in the coming days. Our school staff will spend time in June analyzing our schoolwide data and planning how we can best support all students through our curriculum, academic recovery, and enrichment activities next school year.

Sincerely,
Robert Marino
