P.S. 120

Parent Weekly Bulletin

Week of 5/17/21

Principal’s Memo

Dear P.S. 120 Families,

There are a few events this week I’d like you to be aware of in both our school and the District 25 community. On Tuesday evening (5/18) from 6:30-7:30 PM, our new Schools Chancellor Meisha Porter will be leading a virtual Chancellor’s Town Hall event for Queens parents. You are invited toregister hereand attend to receive information and share any questions/concerns you may have. Chancellor Porter is a true product of the NYC public schools - a former student, teacher, leader, and a NYC DOE parent just like you. I look forward to hearing her message and hope you can attend as well!

On Friday, May 21st, the P.S. 120 community will be celebrating College Awareness Day. Although college is still several years away for our students, the emphasis on higher education and lifelong learning is a value we promote as P.S. 120 Dragons. I will be celebrating my own alma mater, Queens College, a local institution many of our school staff and parents have attended as well. I invite you to share with your child your own educational path and your goals for your child’s college and career success.

Lastly, this coming week all of our students will be taking the iReady Diagnostic #3 exams. These final assessments in ELA/Math will be used to gauge your child’s growth across the year, as well as to set goals for summer practice. Please encourage your child to do his/her best, and remember that parents should only help their child access the test - Please do NOT assist with any test questions. The results are used to inform us how to best provide individual, small group, and whole class instruction for all of our students.

Have a wonderful weekend with your family.

Sincerely,
Robert Marino
