The 4th Grade Practice Squad showed off the skills they worked on last week! Students practiced a new dribbling drill in which they had to use both hands to move around obstacles. Mr. Balvin stressed that students alternate hands and use their preferred and preferred hand when dribbling. After working on dribbling, the squad played a partner passing game where they had to move the ball from one baseline to the other. Before playing a full court game, Mr. Balvin introduced defensive stance and technique. He mentioned to the squad that it is not only important to score baskets but also play tough defense against your opponent. During the drill, the ball handler moved from one sideline to the other while they were being guarded. The student playing defense was instructed not to be too aggressive because that can lead to a foul in a game situation. Not only was this a great drill to practice defensive stance, but also great for using a guarding arm while dribbling the basketball. Next week’s practice will include more team chemistry drills and exercises.
